Ready to take the next step in your healing journey?
At Bay Area Ketamine Center, Dr. Paul Wender, MD, utilizes Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) to help patients break through emotional barriers associated with anxiety, depression, and trauma. As a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, Dr. Wender creates a highly structured, medically safe environment where you can comfortably explore your thoughts, emotions, and personal experiences. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, Dr. Wender works directly with you to understand your unique concerns and develop a personalized IV infusion treatment plan focused on your specific wellness journey.
While traditional therapies can take weeks or months to take effect, Dr. Wender uses ketamine infusions to help patients achieve rapid, meaningful relief from their symptoms. In his practice, Dr. Wender has seen this method offer profound hope to individuals struggling with treatment-resistant depression, chronic anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), end-of-life distress, and PTSD.
Key Benefits of Dr. Wender’s KAP Approach:
• Rapid Symptom Relief: Many patients experience a significant reduction in heaviness, anxiety, and depressive symptoms within just a few hours of their first infusion.
• Deeper Emotional Processing: Ketamine temporarily quiets the mind’s natural defense mechanisms, allowing you to process deeply rooted trauma without overwhelming fear or shame.
• Enhanced Neuroplasticity: Dr. Wender leverages the unique medical properties of ketamine to stimulate your brain’s ability to form new, healthier neural connections and break old thought patterns.
• Medically Supervised Safety: As a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, Dr. Wender ensures your dosage is precisely calibrated, providing a secure, calming environment for maximum therapeutic benefit.
Depending on your unique medical history, Dr. Wender will design a medically supervised therapy plan for you. For most of his patients, the most substantial, long-lasting benefits are reached after a tailored series of KAP sessions under his care.
Dr. Wender leverages the unique medical properties of ketamine to enhance your brain’s neuroplasticity—its ability to form new neural connections. While other mental health treatments target the brain’s serotonin system, Dr. Wender uses precise, customized ketamine dosing to target the NMDA receptors. This is what allows for such rapid mood improvement.
Under Dr. Wender’s continuous medical supervision, this enhanced brain state is combined with guided psychotherapy to help you gather valuable insights, break old thought patterns, and achieve deep emotional breakthroughs.
Under Dr. Wender’s careful medical supervision, you will receive your ketamine treatment through a precise, customized IV infusion. As a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, Dr. Wender ensures the highest level of safety and exact dosing throughout the process. Shortly after the infusion begins, most people experience body-tingling sensations and a deep feeling of relaxation. You will likely notice a mild amount of dissociation—a feeling like you aren’t quite in your own body, or like being in a peaceful trance state where old memories gently resurface.
During the procedure, you will rest comfortably in a serene setting for about an hour while Dr. Wender and our medical staff closely monitor your vitals and overall well-being. Once the IV infusion is complete and you have had a moment to gently transition back, Dr. Wender will sit down with you to discuss the thoughts and feelings that came up, helping you achieve true emotional catharsis—the profound release of repressed emotions.
If you are affected by severe anxiety, chronic pain, or trauma that hasn’t improved with traditional antidepressants or talk therapy, KAP may be the breakthrough you need.
The first step is sitting down for a private consultation with Dr. Wender. During this visit, he will take the time to review your medical history, thoroughly explain the benefits and risks, and ensure you feel completely informed and comfortable. Because patient safety is his top priority, Dr. Wender carefully screens every patient; KAP may not be recommended if you are pregnant, nursing, or have certain untreated conditions like hypertension or a history of psychosis.
Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy can be seamlessly incorporated into your broader personalized mental health treatment plan. Dr. Wender creates individualized treatment plans designed around your specific mental health goals and personal circumstances. He provides guidance throughout the process, collaborating with you (and your current therapists or psychiatrists, if desired) to ensure KAP fits perfectly within your overall mental health care journey.
Will I feel out of control during the ketamine session?
It is incredibly common to feel nervous about this, but you are in safe hands. Because Dr. Wender is a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, he is an expert in precise medication dosing. He carefully calibrates your IV ketamine dose to ensure you reach a relaxed, dreamlike state without feeling overwhelmed. You will remain conscious and aware, and Dr. Wender or his medical staff will be in the room continuously monitoring your vitals and comfort.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Wender will provide you with specific, easy-to-follow instructions. Generally, we ask that you avoid eating solid foods for a few hours before your appointment. Mentally, we encourage you to come in with an open mind and a specific “intention” or goal for your session. Dr. Wender will help you clarify this intention before the treatment begins so you get the most out of your experience.
Absolutely. Dr. Wender highly encourages collaborative care. If you currently have a psychiatrist or therapist, Dr. Wender is happy to communicate with them (with your permission) to ensure your ketamine-assisted psychotherapy seamlessly integrates with the mental health work you are already doing.
I’ve been so impressed with Bay Area Ketamine Center. The people there obviously care about your wellbeing and are friendly and warm. The Ketamine treatments have been game changing for me. Improving my work and personal life so much, and opening up energy and interest I thought was gone. Recently they added vitamin infusions. So easy! And wonderful to give my body a boost and know that my brain has everything it needed for the new neural pathways Ketamine helps create. I had more energy and focus for days after. Win!

The team here from the coordinator to the nurses doctors and even billing department are extreme helpful and proved excellent communication and support throughout the process. I was anxious about the treatment having never experienced psychedelics and having a hard time letting go but the environment and medical support they provide made me feel very safe and that helped me relax and take full advantage of the treatment. Even the billing department makes the process easier and is very patient and educational with trying to gain maximum reimbursement from a reluctant health care insurer. They monitored my vitals and even breathing and talking so they were immediately there for you if you need it. They are a full medical team and cover all your needs such as any potential nausea. Although I was comforted knowing there was a medial teal behind the process that did not change the relaxing and comforting setting they provide with noise cancelling headsets blankets warm lighting and an at home feel. I highly recommend this place especially if you are a first timer with any anxiety or fear about the treatment.

Dr Wender is personable and down to Earth, always cheerful and relaxed which helps set the mood for this kind of treatment! They provide private treatment rooms equipped with a recliner, blankets, sleep masks, soothing light displays and aroma therapy for those who want them. I take my phone and listen to music on my headset during treatments. I always feel comfortable and welcomed…even known and remembered! I know these treatments don’t work for everyone, but they have changed my life for my chronic pain. Though most insurance does not cover it, Dr Wender and his staff have been very very helpful to me with filing all of the needed insurance claims. I couldn’t be happier with the help and service this clinic provides.
